Two young performing arts students, Renni, a dancer, and Laila, an actor, discover a pair of red shoes hidden away in the school basement. Miraculously, the shoes fit them both perfectly. As they share the shoes, they find more success than they could have ever imagined. And in the process, suspect the red shoes have a power they can’t fully understand. In the first half of the film, they discover the red shoes and use them to navigate through their time at college. A close friendship blossoms between the two and we are left wondering if it will lead to more. As they graduate, they decide instead of putting the shoes back where they found them, they will each take one as they attempt to make their way in the world of performance art. The second half of the film brings them back to school for an alumni event. Renni and Laila share stories of their successes and then the problems that followed. Renni's body is breaking down from dancing too hard with too many projects. Laila burns brightly at the start of her acting career, starring in an indie film, before a string of constant rejections. Both as they navigate what it's like to be minorities in the industry. Renni believes that they only received half of the shoes' power when splitting them up. With the shoes back together, he feels like his pain would subside and he can reach new heights. Laila doesn't share her feelings outwardly at first. Tension slowly builds through their reunion night as we see them both vie for the red shoes. And just as romance might happen, the shoes only divide them more, leading to a dramatic nighttime rooftop moment.
